Frequently asked questions about quick-change systems
A quick coupler is the connection between construction machinery and its attachment. It enables different tools to be attached and detached quickly – for example, buckets, grapples, shovels, hydraulic hammers or other specialist attachments.
Depending on the machine and the field of application, mechanical, hydraulic or fully hydraulic quick-change systems are used.
With hydraulic quick-change couplers, the attachment is locked and unlocked from the driver’s cab. Fully hydraulic quick-change couplers go one step further: in addition to the mechanical locking mechanism, the necessary fluid connections are also engaged automatically. This allows the tool to be changed without the need to manually connect hydraulic hoses.
The choice of the right quick-change system depends, amongst other things, on the machine type, weight class, existing adapter system, attachments used and the frequency of tool changes.
A basic distinction is made between mechanical, hydraulic and fully hydraulic quick couplers. The most suitable version depends on the machine, the attachment, the frequency of changes and the field of application.
A fully hydraulic quick-change system not only locks the attachment in place but also automatically engages the hydraulic connections and – depending on the system – other connections. This means that tool changes can largely be carried out from the driver’s cab.
