Sustainable solutions. Hardest steel.
Sustainability
For us, sustainability is not a trend, but a responsibility – towards our region, our employees and future generations. As a steel processing company in the heart of Eastern Styria, we are aware of the challenge of combining environmental awareness with industrial production. That is why we have been pursuing a clear path for years: reducing CO₂, conserving resources and strengthening regional value creation. From photovoltaics to heat recovery and fossil-free steel. Our slogan “Sustainable solutions. Hardest steel.” is not just an empty promise, but what drives us every day.

Our sustainable solutions
Concrete measures
Fossil-free steel
We were the first company in Austria to receive the innovative “Zero” steel from our partner SSAB AB in Sweden – a milestone on the road to climate-neutral production.
Together with SSAB, we are pushing ahead with the further development and practical suitability of this material, sending a clear signal in favour of a future-oriented, low-emission construction industry.

Use of high-strength materials - Hardox 500 TUF
We have been using the high-performance material Hardox® 500 TUF since 2018 – as one of the few manufacturers of construction machinery equipment in Central Europe. The material developed by our long-standing partner SSAB is considered the hardest wear plate with structural properties in the world. Thanks to our high level of vertical integration, we are able to precisely process this demanding material. The result is a significant reduction in the weight of our products combined with an extended service life – more efficiency and a longer service life.
The use of high-strength materials brings clear advantages:
- Reduction in repair and maintenance costs: double the service life compared to 400 HBW steels
- Average 20% thinner sheets:
- Lower consumption of resources such as ore, aggregates and energy
- Less energy used in operation for transport, cutting, forming and welding
- Lower material thickness reduces transport volumes: fewer lorry journeys and therefore a reduction in CO₂ emissions along the supply chain

Procured regionally - thought Europe-wide
Our main suppliers have been based in Europe since 1945. We count on long-standing co-operation with European companies such as SSAB, Promove, HKS, VTN and Combi Wear Parts.
This ensures:
- Short transport routes
- High European quality standards
- Reliable availability
Our Purchasing department stands for responsibility towards the environment and society – and for stable partnerships at eye level.

Photovoltaic systems for own power supply
With the aim of covering up to 80% of our electricity requirements ourselves, we have been investing in a PV system since 2022. Two of the three expansion stages have already been successfully implemented and commissioned in 2024. Switching to our own electricity improves our profitability – and reduces our carbon footprint in the long term.

Heat recovery from thermal cutting processes
We have installed a heat recovery system that efficiently utilises the waste heat from thermal cutting processes in our halls.
Fresh air is preheated in an energy-efficient manner via an intelligent air routing system with a cross-flow heat exchanger – for a constantly pleasant working temperature in winter. During the transitional period, the pre-heated fresh air is regulated in such a way that the room temperature remains optimal. In the warmer months of the year, the heat exchanger is not burdened at normal temperatures, as the warm exhaust air is channelled past it with a recirculation flap and 100% fresh air is also introduced via the source inlets distributed throughout the hall. The hall is purged with fresh air via an automated night ventilation system. Energy-efficient operation at any time of year.

Electromobility in operation
All seven of our forklift trucks and nine company vehicles are now fully electric – charged with electricity from our own PV system.
Conserving resources, a step towards climate-friendly logistics and a clear focus on CO₂ reduction and economic efficiency.

Reduce waste. Increase efficiency.
Under the leadership of COO Gernot Schieg, a sustainable lean management system was introduced with the aim of identifying and eliminating waste and making processes more efficient.
The most important activities at a glance:
- Lean training for over 90 employees
- Introduction of lean boards (analogue and digital) and weekly lean meetings in all administrative and production departments
- Involve all employees by giving them more responsibility and authority
- Establishing a communication strategy for the structured, transparent and comprehensible dissemination of relevant information to all employees

Drive digital processes. Reduce paper.
We have comprehensively digitalised our production processes: Time recording (PZE/BDE), parts lists, work instructions, test reports and all relevant lists and order documents are now available to our employees in production completely digitally on tablets. Machines are already programmed offline during work preparation, which minimises set-up times and optimises processes.
By eliminating printed work plans, parts lists, work instructions and other documents, we save around 250,000 pages of paper every year. This step towards (almost) paperless production is a central component of our sustainable corporate strategy, which not only conserves resources but also sustainably increases efficiency and precision.

Showing responsibility.
Create an effect.
Our sustainability strategy combines technological innovation with a sense of responsibility towards the environment, society and future generations. The United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) serve as our ethical and strategic compass – not because they have been agreed, but because they reflect our attitude.
Whether through the use of resource-conserving steels or energy efficiency measures, we are taking concrete steps to reduce emissions, conserve resources and promote sustainable economic growth. We also practise social responsibility: through fair partnerships, investments in secure jobs, regional cooperations such as the construction of a fire-fighting pond and charity campaigns. Our pro-European purchasing policy stands for long-term thinking instead of short-term profits.
For us, sustainability means making decisions that make sense today – and will still be relevant tomorrow.
